The Seacoast Experience

Available July 31 - August 16

Based in our Seacoast Lodge and Marina, the Seacoast Experience offers Explorations on and around the Maine seacoast.  Campers might be exploring offshore islands, fishing, or searching the coastal beaches for the perfect seashell.  Both of our Experiences offer Explorations that might see campers working on creative STEAM projects,  gathering food from local farms and gardens, or hiking past lakes, streams, and forests.  The dreaded T-Rex is out in the woods somewhere, too, if Campers decide to go bow hunting.

Extra Days

When You Just Need Need More

Parents may opt for additional days at the end of their chosen experience by contacting Camp Zeynana.   Extra days will involve additional Explorations, and must fall in the available dates for the Experience.  You can see the calendar here...

Seacoast Explorations: Projects

Seacoast Experience Exploration List

WET STUFF

Ocean boating

Young boaters will feel safe and confident they gain classroom and hands-on boating experiences such as casting off, docking, boat handling, boater safety, terminology, navigation, and saltwater “rules of the road.”  They will have the opportunity to be Captain of Camp Zeynana’s state-of-the-art ultra-safe Boston Whaler Sea Bear, and visit offshore islands, lighthouses, and estuaries!

Saltwater Fishing

Sea-going campers will jig for mackerel off the coast of New Hampshire, and then decide if they want to release their catch or use them as bait for the fabled and wary Striped Bass that cruise the shores and tidal waters every summer.

Swimming and Swimming holes

Many of our hikes include lakes, ponds, streams, and pools below waterfalls.  Campers that wish to do so can take a swim in these safe, calm waters, knowing that a counselor is always nearby.

Canoeing

Campers will learn to paddle cooperatively and smoothly as they guide their little watercraft toward distant shores of local lakes.

Waterfalls

Maine and New Hampshire mountains have a variety of waterfalls within easy hiking distance.  Campers will select a falls based on their other interests (hiking, photography, swimming) and enjoy the cool spray on a hbot summer day.

Sand, Seashells and SPF 50

Probing the tide pools, rocky shores, and gravel beaches of Maine's seacoast, campers will search for and identify shells, stones, and sealife.  We'll claim our spot on a secluded beach and enjoy a picnic by the sea.

OUTDOOR STUFF

Archery

Campers will acquire new skills as they learn about the principles of arrow flight, bow structure, and archery safety. Campers start with Archery Golf then graduate to an archery range and finally a forest archery trail, where targets hide amongst the trees and shrubs...  watch out for the T-rex!

Trails, Streams, and Ponds

Camp Zeynana is near a multitude of state parks, national forests, conserved wetlands and shorelines, with hundreds of trails along streams, rivers, waterfalls, and lakes.  Campers will select and plan a hike based on their interests and research findings, and then we hit the trails!

Ziplining

If you have never been ziplining -- why not?  If you have, then you know!  Campers will experience all the thrills in a multi-line flying experience through the canopy.

Monkey see, Monkey do

Imagine ropes, swings, cargo nets, and climbing structures waaaayyyy beyond a playground.  Interested?  This Exploration comes complete with a specialist Guest Counselor to ensure a safe, fun, and enjoyable experience.

Geocaching

Premium Geocaching added onto hiking trips; Seacoast Experiences also have semi-urban caches

Two Wheels to Wherever

Campers will saddle up and take a bike ride on one of the many bike trails (only for hikers and bikers, no auto traffic) in the woods and meadows of New Hampshire.

Stars in your Eyes

Whether it's out on the lake or out in the countryside, the dark, clear summer nights of New England are wonderful and quiet places for stargazing.  Campers will learn to identify and locate constellations, star, and planets visible in the night skies.

STEAMy STUFF

Campers get to keep and bring home all of their STEAMy creations

Camp Zeynana Times (Required)

A required experience, each camper will create and decorate a journal, and make daily entries to carry the news of what's happening at Camp Zeynana.   Journal entries and photos will be posted in our Parent's section.

Fun-tography

Anyone can take a selfie; but not everyone can capture a photo. In the field Campers will learn about exposure control, shutter speed, and lens aperture, and how to decide which to use. Then return to the lab to examine their photos and see the results of their work, and will print and frame their favorite.

Habitat for Little Ones

New England has a thing about Fairy Houses.   If you can imagine it, we can build it! Using online resources and your imagination campers will select what type of house they’d like to create. Then we’ll shop for material and learn techniques to create your miniature masterpiece.

It Actually IS Rocket Science

Rocketeers will learn about Newton's 2nd and 3rd Laws and then use these principles to design, construct, and launch safe, non-combustible rockets of different designs.  Campers will try to attain maximum height and distance with their creations.

Better than Hallmark

Did you ever think that Hallmark cards kind of missed the mark?  You can fix that!  Campers will produce their own unique greeting card, choosing an occasion and authoring the perfect card, complete with decorations and graphic design.   Mail it or keep it until you're ready to give it away!

Tiffany’s at Breakfast

Jewelry has been part of human culture throughout all recorded history, and we will continue the craft by designing a custom piece.  Campers will select stones, beads, and findings and assemble them into a finished piece to wear or to gift.

Opposites Attract

Everything we can see, touch, or sense is made up of attracting and repelling forces. By building electromagnets and using hands on experiments campers will have the opportunity to gain real world experience about these opposing forces in chemistry and electricity.

Bill Gates Got Nuthin on Me

Campers will build their own completely functional and fully useful computer from parts, load up the drivers and the Windows operating system, set up Microsoft Office and a web browser, and learn about how an internet connection actually works.

Scratch Shabbat Candles

Every Camp Zeynana Experience includes a Shabbat, and Campers can add their own light by pouring besamim-scented pillar candles, dipping their own shabbat candles, and weaving their own havdalah candles!

YUMMY STUFF

Farm & Garden to Table

Camp Zeynana's area is renowned for their local sustainable farming projects, and we even have our own private garden! Campers will harvest and collect foods such as eggs, butter, veggies, herbs, and berries, and then learn to prepare a scrumptious meal with their bounty.

Making Nom Nom

Each camper will select their favorite dishes and learn how to make them from scratch. Think homemade pasta, sushi, bread, soups, stews, fajitas, ice cream, and more! Campers will locate recipes, learn kitchen skills, shop for ingredients, and enjoy the results of their efforts!

Herbs and Spices from Bush to Bottle

The Camp Zeynana gardens are filled with a variety of fresh herbs and spices.  Campers will learn to identify these tasty plants by sight and by flavor profile, and use them in a meal.  We will collectively harvest the herbs, dry them, and bottle them for later use by the camper's families or friends.
